Backpackers Villa is the right place for you if you consider yourself young or young at heart or if you’d like to stay with us together with your family and kids.

You can book a private room for three, four or up to seven people together as a group of friends or family. If you are looking for a good night’s sleep and fast wifi, but want to keep it as budget saving as possible, you can book a single dorm bed in 6/7 bed dorms shared with other travellers.

You can “book now” for up to 6 people. In case you are more travelling together please send an email. Thanks.

Either way you have plenty of social space available in the hostel. Use our well equipped self catering kitchen to cook, eat and chat. There is plenty of space to play and chat with other travellers. We have table tennis indoor and outdoor, as well as a pool billiards table in the large garden, which you can also enjoy and chill with the view of the snow capped Alpine tops.

Welcome to Backpackers Villa in Interlaken!

At Backpackers Villa, we focus on practical measures to use energy and resources efficiently in our day-to-day operations.

We have been using solar energy to heat water since 2009. In October 2017, we installed a photovoltaic (PV) system on another section of our roof, allowing us to generate part of our own electricity.

We have also installed heat recovery systems in all communal showers in the chalet. These use heat from the shower wastewater to preheat the incoming fresh water, reducing the amount of energy needed for hot water. joulia.com

For many years, we have provided electric vehicle charging stations for both our guests and the local community. We regularly upgrade our charging infrastructure to keep pace with technical developments.

Both buildings are equipped with automatic ventilation systems that provide a continuous exchange of air in the rooms. Heat recovery allows some of the heat from the outgoing air to be reused to warm the incoming fresh air.

These measures also reflect a principle set out in our mission statement back in 1997: “Through environmentally conscious choices in our daily operations, we are committed to caring for creation while keeping people at the heart of what we do.”

In 2011, Backpackers Villa became the first hostel in Switzerland to be certified as “climate neutral”. At the time, this certification was based on a model under which remaining CO₂ emissions were offset through climate action projects supported via myclimate.org.

Today, we communicate our own emissions reductions and our support for climate action projects separately: we reduce emissions from our own operations and additionally support selected projects through myclimate.org. In recent years, these have included a Mobisol project promoting access to solar energy in regions without a reliable electricity supply.

Less laundry, fewer resources

We provide each guest with one towel free of charge per stay. Additional towels are available for CHF 5.– each. With up to 150 guests per night, reducing the number of additional towel changes can make a meaningful difference to the amount of laundry we generate. Since introducing the charge for additional towels, we have significantly reduced our laundry volume – and with it the associated use of water and energy. Together with our guests, we aim to use resources more responsibly.
